Why every pick is molded
How these were ranked
The site's cleat rubric: fit and closure for kids (30%), cushioning (20%), traction type for the age (20%), durability (15%), value (15%). Nike, New Balance, adidas and Under Armour all block automated reading of their own product pages (or render them client-side), so every spec here comes from the BaseballMonkey and Academy listings that quote them, and from Mizuno Canada's page for the Lightrevo. That means the specs are thinner than for bats and gloves; where a listing gave us only the outsole type, that is all the card claims. Cushioning decided the top of the list: the 4040v8's full-length FuelCell midsole and the Lightrevo's Wave plate are named midsoles; most youth cleats have an unnamed foam sliver. We have not worn any of these.

Before you buy
- Size up a half. BaseballMonkey's note on New Balance youth cleats: they “can be a little smaller and narrower than your standard athletic shoe” and a half size up may fit better. Kids' feet also grow mid-season. The sizing guide has the thumb test and the size-1-to-7 conversion.
- Little Kids vs Big Kids. Nike sells the Trout 9 Keystone in both; Little Kids sizes run to about 3Y, Big Kids from 3.5Y. A 7-year-old is usually Little Kids.
- Low cut unless the kid asks. Every pick here is low except the NB 3000v6 mid on the wide-feet page. Mids are warmer and heavier.
- Toe cap matters. Kids drag toes. The UA Leadoff lists a toe-cap overlay; the 4040v8 listing suggests a toe-protection product for pitchers who drag.
- Soccer cleats are usually fine; football cleats are not. The toe stud on football cleats is the problem. See baseball vs soccer vs football cleats.

Gear we claim to have tested: 0
Plenty of sites say they swung every bat on the list in a lab. We don't say that, and we say so on every page. What we do instead: check each bat against the governing bodies' certification rules and the maker's stated stamp; compile sizing from the makers' own age, height and hand charts; read the published specs (drop, barrel, construction, closure, cleat type); and read the complaint patterns in retailer reviews for the “skip it if” line. Every figure links to where it came from.
