Construction differences are general to the three sports' designs; legality is the youth-league norm, not a universal rule. Ask the league.
What the rules say
Little League's published cleat rule is about metal, not sport: molded cleats are permissible in every division and metal is prohibited in Majors and below. It does not name soccer or football cleats. In practice, a molded soccer cleat is a molded cleat, and umpires do not check the sport on the box. Football cleats are a different story: the front toe stud is the feature baseball cleats share and soccer cleats lack, but a football toe stud is bigger and the shoe is built for a different motion, and many youth leagues and coaches prohibit them on safety grounds. We could not find a Little League page that addresses football cleats directly, so treat this as the norm, not a quoted rule.
When the soccer cleat is fine
- Tee ball and coach pitch. Nobody is stealing bases. Wear the soccer cleats.
- A rec season on grass-heavy fields. Soccer studs are designed for grass.
- A kid who plays both and has one pair of feet. Soccer cleats are legal in both sports; baseball cleats are not legal in soccer.

When it stops being fine: hard dirt infields, a kid who pitches (the toe stud matters on the mound), a kid who slides (a baseball cleat's stud layout is designed for it), and any league or coach who says no.
Why not football cleats
The toe stud, the weight and the fit. A football cleat is built to push a blocking sled, not to run bases; it is heavier, the studs are longer and wider, and the front stud is positioned and sized for a different motion. On a slide, that front stud is the injury argument leagues make. If football cleats are the only cleats in the house, a cheap pair of molded baseball cleats costs less than the soccer-vs-baseball debate takes to have.
