Tee ball glove sizing
Rawlings' sizing table (printed on every glove page) gives tee ball, ages 3 to 6, all positions, a glove of 8.5 to 10 inches. In practice 10 inches is the size most makers actually sell, with 10.5 and 10.75 as the step-ups for a 6- or 7-year-old. Measured hand size matters more than age: the glove size chart has the at-home test. What you are checking for is simple: can the kid squeeze the glove shut with one hand, without using the other hand to help.
What matters at this age
- Closing. The maker's break-in rating (10 means near game-ready) and design features built for small hands: Rawlings' Youth Pro Taper and Sure Catch heel, Mizuno's PowerClose, Rawlings' Flex Palm.
- Getting it on alone. A Velcro or Lock Down strap. Laced wrists are for older kids.
- A pocket the ball stays in. Basket webs and soft palms; the ball should stick, not bounce.
- Not much else. Leather grade, web pattern and durability barely matter for a glove that will be outgrown in 18 months. Spend on the strap and the close, not the lace.

Before you buy
- The squeeze test: glove on, one hand, close it. If the kid needs the other hand, it is too stiff or too big.
- Do not size up. A 12 inch glove “to grow into” is a glove the ball falls out of for two years.
- Play catch with it before the first practice. Ten minutes a day for a week with a tee ball, and the pocket forms. The break-in guide covers the rest; none of it involves an oven.
- Write the name inside. Every kid on the team has the same glove.
